KAL Sure Stevia Review: Pure Extract Meets Legacy Quality

Best deal at: amazon.com
$21.50 $25.00

In the world of stevia extracts, KAL Sure Stevia stands out with its impressive legacy dating back to 1932. As someone who’s tested countless stevia products over the years, I’ve found some fascinating aspects about this long-standing brand that differentiates it from the crowded stevia market. Unlike many newcomers to the stevia scene, KAL’s approach to pure stevia extract without any additives or fillers creates a unique proposition worth exploring.

Let’s dive deep into how KAL Sure Stevia measures up against other pure stevia extracts in the market. With its impressive 1820 servings per container and state-of-the-art manufacturing in Utah, this brand claims to offer “surely the best” stevia experience. I’ll break down the key differences and explain why this might (or might not) be your ideal sugar alternative, based on my extensive testing in everything from morning coffee to complex baking projects. After weeks of rigorous testing and comparison, I’ve uncovered some surprising insights about its performance that might challenge what you think about pure stevia extracts.

First Impressions

Opening my package of KAL Sure Stevia, I was immediately impressed by the practical design of the container. The wide-mouth jar with its red screw-top lid makes measuring easy, and the included scoop is actually useful – not just a throwaway accessory. At 3.5 ounces (100g), the container feels substantial, especially when you consider it holds 1820 servings!

What Sets It Apart?

The most striking thing about KAL Sure Stevia is its purity. Looking at the supplement facts, you’ll find exactly one ingredient: Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) leaf extract. No fillers, no additives, not even the usual cellulose or silica you find in many “pure” stevia products. Each 55mg scoop delivers concentrated sweetness equivalent to about 2 teaspoons of sugar.

The Real-World Test

I’ve spent the last three weeks putting KAL Sure Stevia through its paces in various applications. Here’s what I discovered:

Morning Coffee and Tea

Cold Drinks

Baking Adventures

This is where things get interesting. Pure stevia can be tricky in baking, but KAL provides some helpful conversion guidelines:

I tested these ratios in my keto chocolate muffins recipe, and the results were impressive. The key is measuring precisely – even a slight over-measurement can lead to too much sweetness.

Value Proposition

At $19.29 for 1820 servings, this works out to about 1 cent per serving. When you consider each serving replaces 2 teaspoons of sugar, the value becomes clear. The concentrate’s long shelf life and sturdy packaging help ensure you’ll use every bit of it.

Tips for Success

After extensive testing, here are my pro tips:

  1. Always use the included scoop
  2. Start with less than you think you need
  3. Mix with dry ingredients first when baking
  4. For cold drinks, dissolve in warm water first
  5. Store in a cool, dry place with lid tightly closed

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

KAL Sure Stevia delivers on its promises of purity and value. While it requires some practice to use effectively, the quality and economy make it a solid choice for those serious about using stevia as their primary sweetener.

Customer Reviews:
KAL Stevia, not a very soluble product for easy use.

By D.Nitti “Cojitator”, Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2016

It had been many years since I have used the KAL stevia, Back then KAL BRAND It as Pure Stevia and not Sure Stevia. That is my first concern. Secondly, after using in a cold a hot beverage, the stevia just clumped up and did not mix well.
I called customer service and was told each batch was different. I have worked in the vitamin manufacturing end and know that this was not a valid answer as raw materials have quality control procedure. I WILL NOT be buying this again because I AM NOT “SURE” about this product and I am looking for a PURE stevia powder.

Strong – but good – stuff

By MM in the United States on January 7, 2012

I need to preface this by saying that I was very, very skeptical of the reviews. After hearing the virtues and potency of stevia, but being too much of a cheapskate to buy the good, concentrated stuff I got by on less-concentrated stevia that I deluded myself into thinking was as strong as it was gonna get. I thought that I just had too much of a sweet tooth, and that was why I was using so many scoops of Trader Joe’s stevia for one serving and why I went through a bottle of Whole Foods brand liquid stevia in 3 weeks.

My main use for stevia is in these large microwave egg cakes for breakfast. I can’t stand the taste of cooked eggs but I am trying to get more protein in me, so I have been mixing up eggs, pumpkin and almond/coconut flour (plus some flavorings and baking powder) and microwaving it into a cake-like thing. I make these at least once a day, if not more. With the Trader Joe’s brand (at $9.99/oz), I was using FIFTEEN scoops to lightly sweeten it, and I was running out fast. I bought this brand because of good reviews (however skeptical I was of its strength) and because the 3.5 oz one is massively cheaper than what I can find anywhere else.

My first couple tries with Kal stevia were busts, because I underestimated its power. It’s hard to go from 15 scoops out of habit to just 3-4! It is really, really strong and the aftertaste when you use too much is absolutely disgusting. But when I followed J. Turmel’s guidelines (1 scoop = approximately 1 tablespoon of sugar) everything worked out a lot nicer and now I don’t even notice an aftertaste in things I previously had (I can add it to my homemade chocolate without problem now, for example). This is an excellent product that will actually last me a while, for once!

IS NOT 100% STEVIA LEAF, IT CONTAINS MALTODEXTRIN

By Kindle Alien, Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2016

the firs time i bought this item the ingredients listed only “stevia leaf extract”, i was very happy everuithime i put it on berries or coffe or iced t, thinking; How great is this, it’s almost like sugar, delicious and without any insulin spikes, so healthy….. Well, fast-forwarding four or five months, I was ready to order my second bottle, it just happen that I heard a counterfeited version was selling on amazon,so I decided to check google for pic differences to make sure I got the real one, well after one thing lead to another, I ended up in the Kal’s website, -[…]- talked to a very nice lady, who informed me that about three years ago they stopped making the 100% stevia leaf version and added maltodextrin, about 2%, she said, for fluidity. I believe is my responsibility as a consumer to inspect any product I buy, I believe as well that the company, based on the demographic studies know that most of the Kal’s stevia consumers are health-focused or sugar sensitive individuals who are trying to avoid maltodextrin, along with artificial -sugar replacement- products, so in this particular case, the company had the opportunity to put a small warning or sticker on the front label stating that this was a new version and that it contains maltodextrin but decided otherwise.

Very hard to dissolve in water.

By barryr, Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2024

It’s very hard to dissolve in water, which is the way I use stevia powder. I finally found it would go into solution after several days and some vigorous mixing, but what a mess. Where I first thought I would have to trash the whole bottle, now I’m able to use it. But I won’t buy it again.

How it’s good with competitors

When it comes to pure stevia extracts, quality and concentration can vary significantly between brands. I’ve tried countless stevia products over the years, and I want to share my experiences comparing KAL Sure Stevia with two popular alternatives: NuNaturals and Enzo. Each has its own unique approach to stevia extraction and formulation, but KAL’s legacy of quality since 1932 sets an interesting benchmark.

Let’s examine how KAL Sure Stevia measures up against these competitors in real-world usage. I’ll break down the key differences in purity, taste, and value, explaining why each might be the right choice for different needs. With over 1800 servings per container and state-of-the-art manufacturing, KAL makes some bold claims about their stevia quality. After extensive testing in everything from daily beverages to complex baking projects, I’ve discovered some surprising insights about how these brands truly compare.

KAL Sure Stevia vs SweetLeaf:
Both KAL and SweetLeaf target the pure stevia market, but with notably different approaches. While SweetLeaf offers both packets and bulk options with their “world’s best tasting stevia” claim, KAL focuses solely on concentrated powder with their precise scoop system. In terms of taste, SweetLeaf might have a slight edge in immediate sweetness, but KAL’s pure extract provides more consistency in baking and complex recipes. Price-wise, KAL’s 1820 servings per container offers better long-term value compared to SweetLeaf’s packaging options. For beginners, SweetLeaf’s measured packets might be easier to use, but experienced stevia users will appreciate KAL’s precision and economy.

KAL Sure Stevia vs Enzo Stevia:
KAL and Enzo both prioritize quality and purity in their stevia extracts. KAL’s larger container size and included scoop make it more practical for daily use, while Enzo might have a slight edge in taste refinement. Price-wise, KAL offers better value per serving, making it a more economical choice for regular users.
