Natural Mate Stevia Review: An All-Purpose Sweetener Put to the Test

Best deal at: amazon.com
$21.58 $25

Hey there, stevia friends! Jen from BestSteviaSweetener.com back with another deep dive review. Today, we’re exploring Natural Mate’s Organic Stevia Granular Powder, a stevia-erythritol blend that promises to be your all-purpose sugar replacement. Let’s see if it lives up to those claims!

First Impressions

The first thing that caught my eye was the clean, professional packaging with its resealable pouch design. The 16-ounce bag feels substantial, and I appreciate that they showcase real fruit images rather than artificial-looking graphics. Each pack in this 3-pack bundle contains 454g of product, giving you plenty to work with.

What Sets It Apart?

Natural Mate uses what they call “co-crystallization technology” in their stevia-erythritol blend. In theory, this should create a more consistent sweetness and better dissolution. After weeks of testing, I can tell you this actually makes a noticeable difference – but more on that later.

The Real-World Test

I’ve spent the last few weeks putting this sweetener through various tests in my kitchen. Here’s what I discovered:

In Morning Coffee and Tea

The granules dissolve quickly with minimal stirring, and there’s genuinely no cooling effect – something that often plagues erythritol-based sweeteners. One teaspoon perfectly sweetens a large mug, equivalent to two teaspoons of sugar.

In Baking

This is where Natural Mate really shines. The granular texture behaves remarkably like sugar in recipes, and the co-crystallization seems to help prevent the separation issues I’ve experienced with other stevia-erythritol blends. My keto chocolate chip cookies came out beautifully, with no bitter aftertaste.

For Cold Drinks

It dissolves well in cold beverages too, though I recommend a quick stir with a small amount of warm water first for optimal results.

Value Proposition

At $23.98 for three 16-ounce bags (48 ounces total), this isn’t the cheapest option on the market. However, considering its versatility and performance, I’d say it offers good value for those who bake frequently or use stevia daily. Since one teaspoon equals two teaspoons of sugar, each bag lasts quite a while.

Tips for Success

After extensive testing, here are my pro tips:

  1. Start with half the amount of sugar your recipe calls for
  2. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent clumping
  3. Mix with dry ingredients first when baking
  4. Use the 2:1 sugar conversion ratio as a starting point

Final Verdict: 8/10

Natural Mate Organic Stevia impresses with its versatility and genuine lack of aftertaste. While the price point is higher than some competitors, the quality and performance justify the cost for those who use stevia regularly. The co-crystallization technology isn’t just marketing – it genuinely improves the product’s usability, especially in baking.

As always, I’d love to hear your experiences! Have you tried Natural Mate’s stevia blend? How does it compare to other sweeteners in your kitchen? Drop a comment below or send me an email!

Until next time, keep it sweet and natural!

Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected

By G Leftwich, Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2016

As a sugar substitute it actually works very well. Measures like sugar and taste like sugar with only a slight after taste. Problem being I wanted to cut down on the amount used. I have switched to 100 percent steavia powder. Now instead of a quarter cup of sugar for a half gallon of sweet tea I use a quarter teaspoon of steavia.

Not too bad

By YvieB in the United States on May 5, 2022

It had a taste I couldn’t describe but that was because I was coming off of sugar. At this point I’d only ever had white sugar, so the change was a little jarring and took a little while to get used to. My stomach resisted and protested, but eventually gave in. Now it likes it and the taste doesn’t bother me at all.

It needs much larger sizes to be worth the buy

By Consumer0010, Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2019

This comes in 3 1pound packs of stevia which is roughly 5 or 6 cups measured (not all that much) (Also I tend to use a lot of this for making home-made lemon and limeades and to sweeten tea) that being said it is a tiny amount to use when one makes things by the gallon and I can buy 3 or 4 three-pound bags at my local grocer for a fraction of the price so while this product is nice it is overwhelmingly costly in comparison to the grocery store

Not sugar! Not Splenda!

By Spyderwoman, Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2019

I have used Splenda for quite some time now, but the more research you do, the more you find out what certain products do to you! Especially being on a weight control program. So I am trying to find the best alternative for me losing weight and my husband, who is diabetic! I baked with the Stevia yesterday and my blueberry bread was ok., just a bit dry! So that is ok. with a tweak to the recipe! But I will be trying other alternates, Swerve is one. So far so good.

Natural Mate vs NuNaturals:
Natural Mate’s co-crystallized blend offers a more sugar-like experience compared to NuNaturals’ pure stevia products. While NuNaturals excels in liquid drops and pure stevia powder, Natural Mate takes the lead for baking and general kitchen use. The price points are similar when you consider usage amounts, but Natural Mate’s bulk packaging offers better value for frequent bakers.

Natural Mate vs Enzo:
Compared to Enzo’s stevia products, Natural Mate provides a more approachable option for those transitioning from sugar. While Enzo focuses on pure stevia extract, Natural Mate’s erythritol blend offers easier measurement and more familiar texture. However, Enzo remains the better choice for those seeking pure stevia without any additional ingredients.

Taste Great but Not Pure or Cheap

The product taste great but it is pricy and still not very healthy to be considered as a long-term replacement for sugar.
