SweetLeaf Organic Stevia Review: Is This Really the World’s Best Tasting Stevia?

Looking for a truly natural stevia sweetener that lives up to its "no bitter aftertaste" promise? As someone who's tested countless stevia products, I was intrigued by SweetLeaf's bold claim of being "The World's Best Tasting Stevia." With 40 years in the stevia business and a focus on organic, non-GMO ingredients, they've certainly got the credentials. But does their convenient packet format deliver on taste and usability? Let's dive into my hands-on testing of this popular sugar alternative!
5.1/10 (Expert Score)
Product is rated as #22 in category Stevia

Hey there, stevia friends! Jen from BestSteviaSweetener.com back with another deep dive review. Today, we’re exploring SweetLeaf Organic Stevia packets, and let me tell you – this one’s been an interesting journey from my morning coffee to late-night baking sessions.

First Impressions

Right off the bat, I noticed the sleek new packaging design – a major upgrade from their previous look. The box contains 70 packets (140 total in the two-pack), and I appreciate the clear labeling showing zero calories, zero sugars, and zero carbs. The packaging also prominently displays its keto-friendly status and USDA organic certification.

The SweetLeaf Story

Before we dive into my testing, let’s talk about why SweetLeaf stands out in the crowded stevia market. They’ve been around since 1982, making them one of the pioneers in bringing stevia to the mainstream market. Being the original stevia company in the US carries some weight, and their commitment to organic, non-GMO ingredients shows they’re not just riding the natural sweetener trend.

The Conversion Game

One thing I absolutely love about SweetLeaf is their clear conversion chart. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • ½ packet = 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet = 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 12 packets = ½ cup sugar
  • 24 packets = 1 cup sugar

This makes recipe conversion so much easier compared to other brands where you’re left guessing!

Real-World Testing

In My Morning Coffee

Let’s start with the daily essential – coffee. One packet perfectly sweetened my medium-sized cup of coffee, and here’s what surprised me: no bitter aftertaste. Really. As someone who’s probably tried every stevia product on the market, this is noteworthy.

Cold Beverages

For my afternoon iced tea, the powder dissolved surprisingly well with just a quick stir. No clumping or floating particles – a common issue with many stevia products.

Baking Adventures

I put SweetLeaf through its paces with my famous keto chocolate chip cookies recipe. The conversion chart made measuring a breeze, and the final result was impressively close to traditional sugar-based cookies in terms of taste and texture.

What Sets It Apart

Several features make SweetLeaf unique:

  • Zero artificial ingredients
  • No fillers or bulking agents
  • Organic certification
  • Non-glycemic response
  • Kosher certified
  • Gluten-free

The Sweet Details

Each packet contains:

  • 0 calories
  • 0g carbs
  • 0g sugars
  • No artificial ingredients
  • Pure organic stevia extract

Value Proposition

At roughly $15 for 140 packets (two 70-count boxes), SweetLeaf sits in the mid-range price point for organic stevia. Considering its purity and taste quality, I’d say it offers good value, especially for those who prioritize organic certification and clean ingredients.

Usage Tips

After extensive testing, here are my pro tips:

  1. Start with less than you think you need – you can always add more
  2. For cold drinks, stir a bit longer than you would with sugar
  3. In baking, consider adding 1/4 teaspoon of liquid per 24 packets to maintain moisture
  4. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent clumping

The Good and The Could-Be-Better

Pros:

  • Truly no bitter aftertaste
  • Easy-tear packets
  • Clear conversion guidelines
  • Pure ingredients
  • Versatile usage

Minor Drawbacks:

  • Premium pricing
  • Packets might be wasteful for heavy users
  • Some may prefer bulk powder options

Beyond Beverages

While many think of stevia mainly for beverages, SweetLeaf works well in:

  • Breakfast foods (oatmeal, yogurt)
  • Baked goods
  • Smoothies
  • Sauces and dressings
  • Homemade ice cream

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

SweetLeaf Organic Stevia lives up to its “World’s Best Tasting” claim more than I expected. The clean taste, easy-to-use packets, and clear conversion guidelines make it a top choice for both stevia newcomers and veterans.

Until next time, keep it sweet and natural!

Customer Reviews:
Not the stevia I’ve known

By Kevelly, Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2023

I’ve used stevia for many, many years and I know how much it should take to sweeten a cup of coffee. SweetLeaf use to make wonderful tiny tablets you could buy in a small metal tin that sweetened beautifully and you could tuck in your purse, but for some reason they stopped making it. I’ve been using other brands and was happy to try SweetLeaf again, but I was bitterly disappointed in how bad this product is. This is not the SweetLeaf I’d known from the past. I don’t know if this was a bad batch, or they’ve changed something about it, but it does not sweeten worth a darn! When I got up to 8 packets and it still was not sweet, I gave up. Just a note: I also bought some in the small jars to use in the kitchen and they were worthless too. You’d have to use the same amount that you’d use for regular cane sugar to get any sweetness. Just another case of a once good product going bad.

Not sweet. Don’t be fooled by all the great reviews

By Jeffrey B in the United States on June 8, 2023

Please don’t be fooled by all the great reviews here… May be healthier but this is NOT sweet at all.

I tried this product as a replacement for my previous go to excellent Organic Stevia product (“Organic Pyure” {avail here on Amazon} but which did have erythritol as an ingredient). Due to the recent news about erythritol i thought i’d try this non-erythritol product. Too bad it’s not returnable because i would if i could. Why?

1. It is not “sweet” at all. Adding a whole package to my morning coffee I hardly notice ANY sweetness at all compared to the previous mentioned product which took only a 1/3 of a package to be super sweet. Heck, just giving a small “pinch” of real sugar would be sweater than two of these packs.

2. They are suppose to be powder, some are, but more than half of the packs i received are caked solid and only come out in big chucks.

So beware & don’t buy these solely on all the ridiculously positive reviews above. Also note: they are not returnable or refundable if you don’t like them.

Going to try another non-erythritol sweetener product soon and we’ll see if it’s the Stevia or the erythritol that adds the sweetness. Be Well… Shop Wise.

Definitely Not What It Used To Be

By Nanci A. Schwartz, Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2024

Been using this product for about 8 years – the regular and organic depending on price. I’ve noticed a dramatic change in the taste and “sweetness” over the past year or so. What I used to achieve with one or one-and-a-half packets, now takes at least 2. Not sure if the formula changed or if there is less product in each packet but I have gone from a huge fan to extremely disappointed.

No bitter aftertaste. It’s nonglycemic, so I have not noticed an impact to Hubby’s A1C.

How it’s good with competitors

When it comes to stevia sweeteners, not all brands are created equal. I’ve tried my fair share over the years, and I want to share my experiences comparing Enzo’s Stevia to two popular alternatives: NuNaturals and Stevia In The Raw. Each has its own unique qualities, but after extensive use, I’ve found Enzo’s to be my top choice for several reasons.

Let’s start by looking at how Enzo’s Stevia stacks up against these competitors. I’ll break down the key differences and explain why Enzo’s has become my go-to sweetener for everything from my morning coffee to my favorite baked goods.

SweetLeaf vs NuNaturals:
When comparing SweetLeaf and NuNaturals, the differences become clear in daily use. SweetLeaf’s packets offer more precise measuring and easier portability, while NuNaturals tends to be more economical in their bulk form. Taste-wise, SweetLeaf edges ahead with a cleaner finish and less of that characteristic stevia aftertaste. For baking, both perform well, but SweetLeaf’s conversion chart makes it more user-friendly for recipe adaptation.

SweetLeaf vs Enzo:
Both SweetLeaf and Enzo are premium stevia brands, but they serve different needs. SweetLeaf’s packets are perfect for on-the-go use and precise measuring, while Enzo’s concentrate works better for those who prefer to fine-tune their sweetness levels. SweetLeaf shines in its versatility and ease of use, though Enzo might be more cost-effective for heavy users. In terms of taste, SweetLeaf’s “no bitter aftertaste” claim holds up slightly better in side-by-side testing.

Taste Great but Not Pure or Cheap

The product taste great but it is pricy and still not very healthy to be considered as a long-term replacement for sugar.
