Now’s Better Stevia Review: A Pure Organic Stevia That Actually Tastes…

Hey there, stevia friends! Jen back with another deep dive review. Today, we’re looking at NOW Better Stevia Organic Extract Powder, and let me tell you – this one’s different from our usual packet reviews. As someone who’s tried pretty much every stevia product out there, I was excited to test this pure extract option.

First Impressions

When the 1-pound container arrived, I was impressed by its size – this is definitely not your typical small stevia bottle! The packaging is clean and professional, with clear labeling showing its organic certification and non-GMO status. But what really caught my eye was the ingredient list: just one single ingredient – certified organic stevia leaf extract. How refreshing is that?

What Makes This Stevia Different?

One of the first things I noticed about NOW Better Stevia is its purity. Unlike many stevia products we’ve reviewed here that contain fillers or erythritol, this is pure stevia extract. That means:

My Testing Experience

Let me share my real-world experience using this stevia in different ways. First up – my morning coffee ritual. I learned quickly that “a little goes a long way” isn’t just marketing speak. That 1/32 teaspoon serving size? They mean it! I used way too much my first try and whew – let’s just say less is definitely more with pure stevia extract.

In Beverages

After some trial and error, I found my sweet spot (pun intended!). Here’s what worked best:

In Baking

This is where this stevia really shines. Because it’s pure extract powder, you can use it in recipes without worrying about how fillers might affect your final product. I made my famous keto chocolate chip cookies, and they turned out perfect – no weird cooling effect or texture issues like you sometimes get with erythritol-based stevias.

Value for Money

Let’s talk about the price. While the initial cost might seem high compared to packet stevia, let’s break it down:

When you do the math, it’s actually one of the most economical stevia options out there, especially for a certified organic product.

Special Considerations

A few important things to note:

  1. Storage matters – keep it in a cool, dry, dark place
  2. Use tiny measuring spoons or get ready to “pinch”
  3. Measure by weight, not volume (they specify this on the package)
  4. Great for those with allergies – no wheat, gluten, soy, milk, eggs, or nuts

Who Should Buy This?

This stevia is perfect for:

Tips for Success

After using this stevia for several weeks, here are my pro tips:

  1. Start with less than you think you need
  2. Mix it thoroughly – its concentration means you want even distribution
  3. Consider getting some tiny measuring spoons
  4. For baking, mix it with your dry ingredients first

The Verdict

NOW Better Stevia gets an impressive 9/10 from me. It’s rare to find a stevia product this pure that actually tastes good. The organic certification, clean ingredient list, and excellent value for money make it a standout choice in the stevia market.

Final Thoughts

If you’re serious about using stevia and want the purest option available, NOW Better Stevia Organic Extract Powder is definitely worth trying. Yes, there’s a learning curve with measuring, but the quality and value make it worth the effort. It’s become my go-to stevia for baking and everyday use.

P.S. Remember, when it comes to pure stevia extract, less is definitely more!

Customer Reviews:
NOT buying again!

By jLou, Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2024

Ordered this because I have trusted this brand in general for other food-related products AND because it was a bit cheaper than the other pricier organic stevia I’d been using. BUT, I have -0- plans to order again: dissolves slowly – sitting on top of liquids for a bit. Must be coaxed to dissolve. BUT my BIGGEST issue is that it takes 1.5-2.0 x more stevia for the same sweetness compared to the other organic stevia I was buying. Someone isn’t telling the truth on the 100% organic stevia. Is it this brand . . . or the other brand? In any event, I NOW cannot say I trust this BRAND for any of their other supplements.

I can easily drink 3 cups of coffee with 1/4 level teaspoonful …

We ordered this product due to it being both organic and pure Stevia without fillers or additives. I use it in my coffee each morning since I no longer use table sugar or artificial sweetener. It takes a tiny amount to sweeten a mug of coffee since it is very concentrated. In fact, I save a small amount of coffee from each previous cup and pour fresh in without needing to use more Stevia. I can easily drink 3 cups of coffee with 1/4 level teaspoonful of this product. My husband sprinkles it on fruit and in his Keifer drink. This makes a great sugar substitute for baking and actually helps keep my blood sugar levels from going too high. The large size will last us for several months. There is no bitter aftertaste with this product like there is with other Stevia products. I highly recommend this product for anyone who is looking for a natural alternative sweetener. Update: I have received notice from one person that their product arrived without a seal and half-empty. I promptly ordered a new jar so that I can give an accurate recommendation. The jar was promptly sent from Preferred Mart in Lexington, KY through Amazon. The jar had an outer plastic ring seal and an inner, thick paper seal. It was half full but weighed accurately one pound as advertised. Why they send it in such a large jar, I don’t know other than it is a very fine powder that probably packs down during production and shipment. If anyone receives an unsealed jar or thinks they received less product than they should have then please contact Amazon immediately. If you order directly from Amazon, they are very good about replacing product. If you order from another party through Amazon, you’ll probably have to deal with that party directly. I’ve noticed that Preferred Mart is currently not advertising this product for sale although they did fulfill my request and send it as usual. I’ve never had issues with Preferred Mart and have been buying from them to save money.

NOT What It Was…

By BottleSprites, Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020

According to Amazon, I’ve been been ordering NOW Better Stevia (1lb) since 2011. When I ordered in February 2020, I noticed a packaging change (shorter container, new label graphics). Although it still claims to be 100% stevia, it is NOT THE SAME product.

Previously, it was a really super fine powder. When unscrewing the lid, a light cloud of stevia dust would rise up & literally sweeten the air. Now, it is more granular, cakes on the spoon, does not dissolve as well & is NOT as sweet. Instead of using a LEVEL 1/8 tsp, I’m using a HEAPING 1/8 tsp for the same sweetness level. It still tastes ok, but not quite as satisfying.

Not sure if they’re just not refining it as well, or if they’re adding fillers, but very disappointed with the change.

How it’s good with competitors

When it comes to value-conscious stevia options, NOW’s Better Stevia has gained attention for its approach to quality and affordability. After testing numerous stevia products, I’ve found some surprising aspects about this brand that deserve attention. Their balance of quality and value creates an interesting position in the market.

Let’s explore how NOW’s Better Stevia compares to both premium and budget alternatives. I’ll break down what makes it unique and help you understand if it’s the right choice for your needs.

Now Better Stevia vs NuNaturals:
Let me break down how NOW Better Stevia compares to NuNaturals – two heavyweight pure stevia extracts that I’ve been testing extensively in my kitchen. While both offer organic stevia without fillers, I’ve noticed some distinct differences in daily use. NOW Better Stevia tends to dissolve more quickly in both hot and cold liquids, which is a huge plus when I’m making my morning cold brew. However, NuNaturals has a slightly smoother taste profile with less of that characteristic stevia hint in the finish. Price-wise, NOW Better Stevia gives you more bang for your buck, offering more servings per container at a competitive price point. The measuring process is pretty similar for both, requiring those tiny 1/32 teaspoon amounts, but I’ve found NOW’s powder to be a bit more consistent in its sweetness level from batch to batch. For pure stevia purists, both are solid choices, but NOW edges ahead slightly in terms of value and dissolution properties.

Now’s Better Stevia vs Enzo Easy Use Stevia:
Comparing NOW Better Stevia with Enzo’s offering reveals some interesting contrasts in how these brands approach pure stevia. Both brands give us certified organic stevia extract, but Enzo stands out with its slightly higher concentration – it’s about 120 times sweeter than sugar, while NOW’s version is a bit less concentrated, making it somewhat easier to measure for stevia newcomers. In my baking experiments, I’ve found that NOW Better Stevia performs more predictably in recipes, possibly due to its slightly lower concentration. That said, Enzo’s product has an incredibly clean taste with virtually no aftertaste, which is impressive. The price comparison gets interesting – while Enzo’s higher concentration means you use less per serving, NOW’s larger container size and lower initial cost often make it the more economical choice for most households. I’ve noticed that NOW’s product has a more forgiving learning curve, especially for those new to pure stevia extracts, while Enzo’s super-concentrated formula requires more precision in measuring.
